Panama’s exports to Canada expected to double

Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird was in Panama Tuesday, February 19 as part of a quick fire tour of Latin American countries which have become a focus of Canadian foreign policy.

At a meeting Baird with his Panamanian counterpart Rómulo Roux Baird said the interests of his country are the diversification of the presence of Canadian companies in Panama. During the meeting, Baird also discussed the possibility of increasing airline flights between the two countries to promote business and tourism.
Panama and Canada have a free trade agreement under which local authorities expect exports to the North American country to double within a period of five years. Baird’s visit “confirms the excellent bilateral relationship” between the countries, said Roux.
