Canada looking at Panama for agricultural investment

Canadian businessmen, encouraged by the benefits of the newly implemented Free Trade agreement (FTA)with Panama, are studying the benefits of investing in local agriculture.

A group from Canada recently visited farms in Cocle and Los Santos and according to Johnnie Sbrocci, of C.O.D. Fresh, they are evaluating whether to import papaya and some tubers next year. Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, José Pacheco, said the visiting companies were willing to invest in the country exploiting the advantages of the FTA) with Canada. The arrival of these investors to the country is the result of business tours and producer participation in trade fairs and missions , said the National Export Director, Irma Chong.

The companies visited by members of C.O.D. Fresh were Asprato, Mundex, Latin Fruit, Finca Reginia Díaz and Estrella agrícola.

Panama’s exports to Canada expected to double

Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird was in Panama Tuesday, February 19 as part of a quick fire tour of Latin American countries which have become a focus of Canadian foreign policy.

At a meeting Baird with his Panamanian counterpart Rómulo Roux Baird said the interests of his country are the diversification of the presence of Canadian companies in Panama. PanCanada´s Members Enjoy Inaugural Rides on Panama´s New Subway System (Metro)

Last March, Courtesy of Min. Roberto Roy and PanCanada member, Luis Manuel Hernadez, several PanCanada members enjoyed free rides on Panama City´s new “Metro” (Subway system).

We were able to book 3 different groups during three days, and offered our membership an tour of the new fcilities, and all stops.  Metro employees and engineers were at hand to offer an interesting overview of the system, the construction process and operation details.
